Police Incident - 23 March

You are probably aware that there was a significant police incident in Wells on Saturday afternoon.  Unfortunately, a man has died as a result of his injuries.

We have stayed in close contact with the police throughout the weekend in order to be reassured that our students are safe.  Whilst clearly this is a significant incident for them, the police have sought to keep us as informed as they can.  Their current statement regarding the incident is as follows:

At 4.25pm we were called to a disturbance at Merlin Drive, Wells.

One man was seriously injured and has sadly died.

There is currently an increased police presence in the area.

An investigation has been launched and we have already made multiple arrests.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has information which could help us, is asked to phone 101 and tell the call handler you are phoning in relation to log 760 (of 23 March).

Alternatively pass on information through the independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information cannot be traced or recorded and you will not go to court or have to speak to police when contacting Crimestoppers.

In order to help students feel safe, additional PCSOs will be deployed to the school entrances tomorrow to provide a visible presence for students.  Staff will be aware of the possible impact on students.

Should you have any specific concerns regarding your child and this incident, please do not hesitate to contact the Pastoral Office at school.
